Freedom Family Coaching

Family Coaching

Families evolve within an ever-changing set of dynamics, it can be difficult to get a handle on aspects of this change from time to time, and sometimes stepping out of your day-to-day life to reflect on what is going well and what needs more work on is what is needed.

Freedom offers a broad range of family coaching services across both childcare and social care and has over the years developed a deep understanding of what ingredients are needed to keep a family on track and how change obtains traction and better outcomes. Our services are targeted at families with children facing mental health issues, disabilities and additional needs, Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) also referred to as ASD, Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Our services are available to young people up to the age of 25.

We can offer a bespoke set of family coaching sessions that will talk through the current family architecture and through honest discussions we can create a plan for positive change and set SMART Goals.

Freedom will work through the life domains such as:

  • Positive Relationships
  • Physical Health
  • Strong Families
  • Purpose and achievement
  • Resilience
  • Love and Care
  • Fun, Novelty and JOY

How family coaching works

The work will start with a 2-hour session that will be a discussion about the family unit and its attached eco system…. Things like who works, what they do, what do the children like, what do the adults like, where do you live, how do you live. At the end of this initial meeting, we will have gained a clear picture of the family and how you are currently feeling about your role as a parent and the family unit. From this place of understand we can then look at the individual aspects in more detail and create a set of goals and most importantly the to do list that will be the building blocks for the change that is needed.

How long will family coaching sessions last for

We work our coaching sessions weekly over a minimum of 12 weeks, as this will ensure there is time to discuss each aspect in detail leaving extra sessions to dig deeper, discuss what isn’t working and why (we won’t get everything right first time) or celebrate wins and make tweaks to previous plans.

The first session is 2 hours each session after this is 1 hour long (can be extended if required.)

Young person mentoring and family support

In addition to the family coaching, we can also create some sessions in the family home working with you alongside the children and adults. This can be very helpful when trying to understand dynamics, triggers and behaviours. Also we can role model techniques and language demonstrating how the discussions we are having transform into practice.

Freedom Children’s Social Care can also access activities to do with the young people in the family which can be a way of connecting with the young person, gaining their trust, and developing a dialogue. This can be fundamental in the pace of change for the family as it means we understand things from the young person’s perspective and can gently develop a positive relationship through enjoyable activities. These activities will reflect the child’s interests and will be designed to be engaging and fun.

One off family coaching and signposting

Alternative to our ongoing family coaching is the option for one-off appointments to work through a specific problem with a trained family coach.

One family coaching session may be enough to help you get back on track by allowing you to speak with someone neutral and discuss the issues you are experiencing. This in turn can help you feel less anxious and more in control, allowing you to focus on solutions rather than problems.

One-off sessions are charged in isolation. Follow-up sessions can also be booked, but this allows you to dip in and out of support rather than committing to a full block of sessions.

We understand every child and young person is unique and would ask you to contact us by phone to discuss your specific needs and requirements.
